Penny Fox's Road to her First Triathlon for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Team in Training
I am training for the Treasure Island Triathlon in November in San Francisco. This is an Olympic Distance Triathlon (0.9 mile swim, 25 mile bike, and 6.2 mile run) I am committed to raising $3900 for this event to proceed the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. My Great Aunt Eda recently passed away from Leukemia and I will be will be doing the triathlon in her honor.
I am also doing the race in honor of a young lady that I have recently met over the telephone who lives in Orting. Her name is Courtney and she is 20 years old. Courtney was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkins disease in November of 2001. She was having symptons for about a year prior to this, but the doctors were reluctant to run any tests because she didn't have health insurance. After her symptons continued to worsen she saw a different doctor at which time she was admitted to the hospital, diagnosed and began chemotherapy. She completed her chemotherapy treatment in May, and is back in school now, pursuing a career in the medical field. Courtney and I will be in touch throughout my fundraising and training and I will keep updates about her in my diary portion of this website. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Mission is to Cure Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin's Disease, and Myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their familes. I am excited and proud to be part of this mission and adventure! |
